Santa Fe Ave: Artistic Media Galore!
Activities Grab Bag
The Santa Fe Art District is emerging as a new location for art lovers, young and old. Go on a gallery crawl on Santa Fe Avenue and discover what diverse materials artists use in their exhibits.
Instructions:
Denver's Art District on Santa Fe is packed with art galleries, a theater, and restaurants. Located on Santa Fe Avenue between 5th and 10th Avenues, there are about 25 galleries showing art that ranges from contemporary to classical. Many of the buildings have been renovated and this trendy district is giving the more well-known "Cherry Creek" a run for its money.
Spend a day or an afternoon gallery hopping on Santa Fe Avenue. Some galleries you should visit include Museo de las Americas, Habitat Gallery and Studio, and Sandy Carson Gallery.
While you wander through these galleries, look carefully for different kinds of media (paints, materials, fabrics, kinds of art, etc.) the artists used to create their art. For example, photographs, oil painting, watercolor painting, pastels, and sculpture are all different kinds of artistic media. You and your fellow travelers will keep track of all the different kinds of artistic media you see used in exhibits. At the end of your trip through the Santa Fe galleries, the person who found the most different kinds of artistic media wins!
(Hint: read the note next to each painting or piece of art exhibited to find lists of the media used to produce that piece of art.)
